48 shelley street dear mr editor j recently i experienced a sit uation involving one of our lo- cal mds whom i shall not name concerning a sick child the in cident happened on a holiday weekend late at night and al though i have sympathy for pro fessional people such as doctors who have to work long irregular hours the fact remains that they are usually well paid for their services in this instance i was advis ed by the doctor who was sub stituting for my family doctor to treat my sick child using as pirin and if i were further wor ried to take him to the hospital had i not been extremely con cerned in the first place i would not have contacted the doctor in due course i received a hill from him which in my op inion wis completely out of proportion to the services ren dered ie two local telephone calls i contacted the doctors office and was informed that i should not be concerned with the extent of the sum of this service since i carried medical insurance in my opinion we pay for our medical insurance coverage through our taxes or through personal plans and it comes out of our pockets in the end this incident strongly sug gests to me that a certain doc tor wishes to enhance his finan cial status at the risk of taxing his professional ethics mrs j maclean fines for litter there are at least 1200 peoi pie who are very much aware that it is against the law to lit ter the highways in ontario they have paid the fines that prove it these are the number of fines that have been handed out over the past three years at an aver age of more than 3s0 per year and these
