costttssys the board chairmans reply to the town ships resolution seems to im ply the board feels no one should criticize it esquesing township council lor kan marshall said whenever anyone criticizes the board it attacks those making the criti cism or blames the problems on someone else usually the prov incial government he said chairman fred arm- itages statement seems to have been written in anger and attempts to show us as irresponsible rabblerousers ridiculous armiuge in his statement celled marshalls suggestion that salaries be reduced ut terly ridiculous and an insult to the staff of the board of ed ucation marshalls motion has suggested the board hold the line on teachers salaries cut- fees paid to trustees and re duce salaries of all employees earning over 12000 a year the motion has been sent to other municipal councils in hal ton for their approval marshall said he is concern ed with the boards spending he said council has to raise money for the board but has no say in how it is spent marshall said his suggestions on how the board could cut costs were only suggestions and if the board can justify all the salaries they pay that would be alright with him loud protest the motion was made to stir up interest in the boards bud get before the board draws it up and it is too late to make cuts marshall said this years board budget of 32 million brought loud protests from halton ratepayers marshall did not accept arm- itages defense of the fees paid to trustees armitage said council honoraria cost the county taxpayer two and one half times as much as the hon oraria to board of education members msrshall said it is not fair to compare the total honoraria of council members to that of trustees because there a many more council members than trustees there are 20 trustees while each of halton seven mun icipalities has between five and 12 council members marshall accused the board of always attempting to defend itself by comparing itself to some other group he suggested the board just worry about itself and if it is making mstake to correct thenj the people of esquesing have expressed concern about rising education costs jftarshall said and
