is today there was scarcely any money then and everybody needed something so it was long un derwear or a bandknit sweater socks or gloves maybe a few real luxuries like a 59cent gamo of snakes and ladders or a book ten dollars didnt go far even then today joplc almost go ar ound the bend trying to find something f other pcopie who have evci thing or can buy it nobody makes a ift- they buy them they havent time because of the christmas rush clothes that dont fit eightdollar toys that last fi e minutes a hundred dollar worth of ski equipment that isnt the right kind christmas eve then was car ols around the piano mother stuffing the turkey kids to bed arly quivering with excitement stocking stuffing time tee the adults a quiet chat with a little despair that there wasnt money for skates and new win- tar coats and things like that today its frantic lastminuto shopping and wrapping of gifts entertaining peoole who have i managed to finish their rat- i race we got to bed at 4 am- 1 last year after receiving carol- lers and others and believe it j or not we had frozen chicken j pies for christmas dinner hope im not getting maudlin fjut christmas used to be mer ry now its just hairy
