Flahiff will address Sunday Evening Club in final meeting of season CALL OUT MANY FARMERS Tillers of the soil Named To Fill Quotas in Local District Twenty-five selective service men in draft district No. 3, left for the Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mis- souri, last Monday evening. They, together with a group of twenty- three men who are expected to en- train for Camp Wheeler, Georgia, on Saturday, May 25, comprise the rem- nant of the Class I-A men in the district and include, in great part, farmers who had, previously been granted extention of time to assist in the harvesting of this season's grain crops but who are called into the service at this time because of the urgent need of men for general military service. A quiet but impressive ceremony accompanied the leave-taking of the men last Monday. Draft and Village officials, friends and relatives of the new soldiers, comprised the greater part of the farewell group at the Wil- mette station of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway and the boys were given a royal send-off. It is not expected that calls for men from this district will be forth- coming in the near future until other districts in the state, whose Class I-A is not so near the point of ex- haustion, as is that of the local district, are relieved of more men. Flahiff, one of the handful of survivors of the famous Princess Pat's Canadian regiment which covered itself with glory in France, will be the speaker before the Wilmette Sunday Evening club at its closing meeting for the year, May 26. Sergeant Flahiff is a young Ameri- can, who was among the first who volunteered in the Canadian forces.. He was in the Ypres salient during the heavy fighting and at Bapaume back of Vimy Ridge. Twice he was "over the top" in the big drives, and dozens of times in trench raids. After his address, in which he will describe the every day lot of the fighting soldier from enlistment to "No Man's Land" and back, Sergeant Flahiff will conduct a question box and will answer question of interest from the audience. From 7:15 until about 7:30 o'clock special music will be rendered by an orchestra under the direction of Prof. F. J. Waller. FOOD ADMINISTRATION ORDINANCE NO. 1228. AN ORDINANCE providing for the eradication of the common or European Barberry. Be it ordained by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Wilmette:-- Section 1. It is hereby declared a nuisance for any person, firm or cor- poration to plant or permit the growth, upon any premises, of the bush of the species of tall, common or European Barberry, further known as Berberis vulgaris, and its horticultural varieties within the corporate limits of the Village of Wilmette, Illinois. Section 2. It is hereby made the duty of the Department of Health to serve, through the Village Police or other persons designated by them to do so, a notice in writing upon the owner, agent, occupant or person in possession, charge or control of any lot, building or premises in or upon which this said bush may be found, requiring them or either of them to remove, destroy and carry the same way and off such premises within two days. Section 3. If the person so no- tified shall refuse or neglect to comply with such order within the time and in the manner specified, the Department of Health, by- a* Police Officer of the Village or other person designated, shall cause the abatement of such nuisance at the expense of the party or parties responsible for or permitting the same. Section 4. Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate any of the provisions of .this ordinance or who shall interfere with the en- forcement or execution of the same, or who shall neglect or refuse to remove the bush commonly known as the common Barberry when or- dered to do so, shall be punished by a fine of not less than Ten Dollars nor more than Two Hundred Dol- lars for each offense. Section 5. This ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after its passage and publication as re- quired by law.
