X THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1921 11 ocioJ H^ppeiNiixcfc tin by Rutk Ridley ILIJAM A. OTIS,, prominent Winnetka civic leader, is to discuss "Track: Depression" at an Open meeting of north shore residents at the Winnetka Woman's club, Monday evening, February 8. The subject of track depression in the instance of railway right of ways in the north shore villages, is considered of vital interest to every resident in the township. An invitation is extended to all residents of the north shore interested in track depression, a project under consideration by the Plan Commissions in every village in the township. The twenty-sixth anniversary of the founding of The Neigh- bors of Kemlworth was celebrated yesterday afternoon at a meet- ing of that organization. The program was in charge of Mrs. John Howard Jones, and was presented by members of the club _-< --------------♦-------------- The Conservation committee of the: Mrs. Bruce MacLeish of Glencoe ^eco!Hl District of the Illinois Fed- was on th* Phmmitt.. ;„ «u___i=S* .Second District of the Illinois Fed- eration of Women's clubs will hold its second annual birdhouse exhibit from March 14 to 1,9 at Field's. The exhibit is a movement for the pro- tection \"qT our wild birds. Owing to the removal of the dead trees which were the natural resting sites of many of our birds ,we must supply these birds with made bird boxes if we want them to nest around Chi- cago. It is also a means of saving our trees^ for the birds ..eat great quantities of insects. On the educa- tional side, the exhibit forcefully di- rects attention to bird study, teaching people to know and love birds. Believing that this bird conserva- tion-movement should start with the children, the committee has enlisted the help of the school children of Cook county, who are busy making birdhotises and posters and thereby learning about the birds and their habits.____ The most correctly built houses from each school will be selected^or the exhibit, and later hung in the forest preserve. "On the Trail of Our Earliest An- cestors," is the subject of the lecture to be given by Prof. James A. Breasted of the University of Chi- . cago, on Thursday afternoon, Feb- ruary 24, at the Winnetka Woman's club. As a writer, collector and historian, and a professor of Egyptology, Ori- ental history, and the Semitic lan- -guages, Professor Breasted is well known not only in the United States but in the old world as well, hav- ing given valuable aid in classfy- ing and inscribing the collections of many of the great universities and museums of Europe and the Far- East. Professor Breasted tells an unusu- ally interesting story of his exper- 4enees in the different countries where his work has led him, espec- ially in Mesopotamia and in Egypt. A lecture of this type should attract a large audience. was on the committee in charge~oT a ltmcheon given Saturday in the tearoom of Carson, Pirie/ Scott & Co. bvJlIinoi5^ajid_^icago;Wellesley alumnae to open officially, the-Wel- lesley college semi-centennial fund drive.
