UNIQUE PART IN m$LARHE' James Witherell Assumes the Leading Role "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." In William Larkie, the leading char- acter in "Alias Larkie" the melodrama produced by Campus Players at the Evanston Woman's club, this week Friday and Saturday, Abram Menden- hall has created a character that is said to be unique upon the stage. The man is a convict who has served his term and been released. The first the police learn of him after his re- lease from Joliet is when he is taken in an attempt to "lift" a necklace in a oriya*« **«"« in the *uburbsâ- â- â- â- o£-Uu*" "cago. He astonishes his captors by telling the exact truth when ever ques- tioned. The result is he is hired as a chauffeur at the home. He no soon- er enters upon his new duties than he slugs and hand-cuffs .a man> and1 when taken for this he again baffles the po- lice by telling the flat ttuthy as well as his motive in slugging the man. Then, however, his real troubles begin and increase until he is. taken for murder. Again by. adhering to the truth he involves himself m a net ot circumstances from which there is no escape. The denouncement is one of the most compelling climaxes imaginable and the final curtain falls on a con- clusion that greatly surprises every- °nMr. Mendenhall wrote the part with the intention of playing it himself but he found such an able exponent in James Witherell that he surrendered the part to him and in the opinion of -*hos% Who have witnessed the rehear- sals "Jimmie" gets away with it big. Natalia Purcell, Jean Smith and. Hope Summers are exceptionally good types, William Grimm, Larry Hall, Max Ewing, Millard Smith, Everett Fox and William Woodruff complete a cast of more than usual excellence. Dancing after each performance and good music were promised. NOTICE OF *AMB OF >IIAAGB NOTICE oirpB<>pKRTY .
