It is a matter of speculation in the minds of all the students of world affairs as to wheth- er the recent catastrophe will effect me diplomatic relationships with Japan.or not Surely the prompt relief from America should serve as a bond of friend- ship between these two nations. _ At this timely season, the Wilmette Baptist church is to conduct a School of Missions, beginning Wednesday night, September ,26. The school as conduct** is under the direction of the Board of Promotion of the church, of which Miss Annie S. Beach is chairman. Courses will be offered for adults, for voting people and for children, lne adult class will be held on Wednesday evenings, with the exception of Oclo- tjer 17, from September 26 to November 7 at 8 o'clock, and will be taught by Professor Edmund D. Soper, Professor Of Comparative Religions at Northwest- ern university.. Dr. Soper was born of ipisionary parents in Japan, has made recent travels in Japan, and is the author cjf the most authoritative recent works in English on comparative religions en- titled/ "The Religions of Mankind." Dr. Soper is not only a profound scholar fcjut a charming and popular teacher. The adult' class will use as a basis for its study, a new book put out by the Mis- sionary Education Movement entitled, "The Creative Force in Japan," by Galen M. Carey Matthews, who took a special course in normal training at the Cake Geneva Missionary Education con- ference this past summer in preparation for her work.
