Alles, Frank
- Full Text
In a log house which stood at what is now the north entrance to Indian Hill Club, Frank Alles, whose present home is at 1636 Lake avenue, Wilmette, was born on August 5, 1861. his father had come to this country from Germany in 1839. On May 5, 1885, Mr. Alles was married to Barbara Schildgen, whose home was one mile west of Ridge road. At the time of his marriage he was given twenty acres of land by his father. On this land he built a house and other buildings, and it remained the home of himself and wife until 1913, when it was sold to the Indian
Hill club. The couple then came to Wilmette and built the substantial residence in which the pioneer still lives. Mrs. Alles died last January.
Like many of the early pioneers, Mr. Alles engaged in farming and logging, and by hard work and thrift accumulated a tidy competence. He is a cousin of Frank Alles, 1614 Wilmette avenue, Wilmette's only suriving veteran of the Civil war.
