The last report of the village treasurer shows that there is in the treasury the sum of $32,827.31

The trial of Charles Goodrich for the murder of Mrs. Cron is to be called the first of next week. Mr. Wheeler was to have started for California this week, but will now wait until after the trial.

Senate Deputy Bishop, of Evanston, installed the officers of North Shore council, N.U., last Monday evening. Notice was read that the amount of insurance due Mrs. H. O. Bradley had been paid.

Bills for extras presented by contractors don't ssem to stand much chance here. Two weeks ago the bill of the Evanston company was cut down about $1,000, and this week the bill of L. W. [sic] Newcomer was reduced $600.

It seems that the young man who was so unfortunate as to be unable to secure the company of a young lady actually had an invitation to the party referred to; this being the case, the item of last issue was not founded on facts.

Messrs. Alexander and Hill have tendered their resignations as village engineers, the same to take effect at once. Our engineers deserve credit for the able manner in which they have performed the duties laid upon them.

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Barker will be pained to learn of the death of their eldest son, Charles, aged 14 years, who died Tuesday, Jan 9, after an illness of but a few days. He was a member of the First M.E. Sunday school, and was universally loved by his teachers and all who knew him. The funeral services were held the same day, conducted by Rev. H. G. Leonard. Burial at Rose Hill. Mr. Barker and the remaining two children, Myra and Junior, are also sick with diptheria.

The committee to report on the question of annexation met Monday evening, all members being present. It was moved by Mr. Burge that the committee have nothing to do with the petition for a special election. Seconded and carried. Moved by Mr. Pierson that the committee, in its report, omit all recommendations of any nature, and confine itself to facts only. Seconded and carried. Moved by Mr. Burge that the chair assign the work among the different members of thecommittee. Seconded and carried. The following are the subjects to be considered, and the members of the committee to which they were assigned by the chair: Taxation law--McLean and Kirk. Financial conditions of Evanston and Wilmette---Burge and Dingee. Lights and water, police and fire departments, postal service, transportation--Martin, Gage and Boddinghouse. Representation, educational facilities, relation of annexation to the temperance question--Pierson and Drury. The meeting adjourned until next Monday night, at 8 p.m.

VILLAGE BOARD An adjourned meeting of the village board of trustees was held Jan. 11, 1893 [sic]. Present president Dingee and trustees Spence, Taylor, Mueller, Drury, Doig and Wheelock.

The report of treasurer ws received showing a total balance on had of of $32,827.31. Ordered filed. On motion the balance in the special police fund was transferred to officers' salary fund. Majority and minority reports of finance committee on estimate of I. W. [sic] Newcomer were received. Moved and seconded that the reports be laid on the table until next meeting, and on being brought before the board, the motion was lost. Moved by trustee Spencer that the majority reports be read and recommendations concurred in, lost by the casting vote of the president. The board went into commiittee of the whole to consider Mr. Newcomer's estimate. The committee arose and reported that Mr. Newcomer be allowed extras amounting to $40.00 and items $40.60 were disallowed. On motion of Mr. Spencer the report of the majority was adopted, then reconsidered and laid over until the next meeting. Meeting adjourned. F. H. Drury, Clk.
