- New Trier Jazz Band director Jim Warrick received an Achievement Award for Jazz Education in the Down Beat magazine awards program. The same issue of the magazine selected the New Trier High School Symphony Orchestra conducted by Peter Rosheger as the most outstanding ensemble in the category of high school Classical Orchestra; New Trier Fine Arts Association awarded scholarships to Elizabeth Cohn-Martin, Fred De Albuquerque, Allison Perelman, Arielle Goodman, Sarah Wilkinson, Heather Addis, Shira Brenman, Nina Cohodes, Erin Gaertner, Kelly Moran, Nell Murphy, Jake Harris, Paul Jansson and David Kromelow; Retiring music faculty member David Bachman was surprised when students sang a tribute song for him; Inactive records of special education students prior to August 1999 will be destroyed; Dance department honored students May 19 during dance concert: Brittany Spanjer, Elizabeth Jones, Shira Brenman, Heather Addis, Stefanie Ferdinand, Ingrid Larson, Hannah Papageorge and Caitlin Davy; Dara Richer of Winnetka received Lynn and Dora Williams Memorial Award for community service
