Allyn Taber Anderson
Private, Marines, 83rd Company, 6th Regiment
In Belleau Wood, France, he was gassed on May 29, 1918, wounded by shrapnel on June 12, and died in the hospital at Juilly, France, on June 24, 1918. He is buried in the American section of the cemetery of the college there.
Survived, at the time of his death, by parents, Ernest W. and Anna C. Anderson, 753 Twelfth St., Wilmette
Born August 21, 1892 in Chicago. His education began in the Walter Scott (grammar) School of Chicago. He entered the University of Michigan in 1911, attended Northwestern University the following year, but returned to the University of Michigan in 1913. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. During the summer of each year he studied banking, currency and auditing at the University of Wisconsin. In 1915 he went into business, but continued his studies by taking a night school commercial law course at Northwestern University.
Enlisted as a private in the Marines on May 10, 1917 and received his training at Port Royal and Quantico, Va. Sailed for France in October 1917 and was in the trenches at Verdun from March 15 to May 15, before going to Belleau Wood.
