Peter John Huerter, Private, U.S. Army, Co. C.A.C.
Died October 4, 1918, of influenza, on the ship going overseas. Buried at sea on October 5, 1918, the same day the ship landed in France. His name is on the family stone in St. Joseph's Cemetery, in what was then Gross Point, now Wilmette.
Survived, at the time of his death by:
Stepfather and mother, John and Anna Huerter, 2023 Schiller Av., Wilmette. (His father, Peter, preceded him in death)
Sister, Anna, and half-sisters, Beatrice and Margaret
Born July 24, 1896. Graduated from St. Joseph's (grammar) School. Attended New Trier High School. Was affiliated with St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Entered the service and began his training in boot camp in Waco, Tex., along with this Gross Point friends Joseph Engels and Anthony Borre. Was then sent to Hoboken, N.J., where, on September 24, 1918, his ship set sail for France.
