William Cooke Pope, Second Lieutenant, 10th Field Artillery, Company D, 10th Regiment, 3rd Division
He was in the hospital in France for two and a half months recovering after being wounded twice in the battle of Chateau Thierry. He was on his way back to the front when he ws taken down with pneumonia. He died in a hospital in Paris on October 17, 1918. His body was later brought to this country and buried at Milburn Cemetery, Milburn, IL.
Survived, at the time of his death by: His aunt, with whom he resided, at 904 Lake Av., Wilmette, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Pope, Wadsworth, IL.
graduated from Evanston High School and Northwestern University. Worked in the bond department of the Continental and Commercial Bank.
On August 27, 1917 he entered the Army and was placed in the 10th Field Artillery at Fort Sheridan. In December 1917 he was commissioned second lieutenant and sent to France.
