T. F. Cook, 318 Forest avenue, was the innocent victim of an anti-German demonstration late last evening when his automobile, sheltered in a garage owned by H. Zeggel of 1326 Forest avenue, was destroyed by what was alleged to have been an act of incendiarism. Alleged failure of Zeggel to enter enthusiastically into pro-Uncle Sam war work, was thought by Village authorities to have inspired the destruction of his garage and the automobile. A large placard bearing an ominous warning to all pro-Germans on which was also scrawled the name of Zeggle was found by neighbors tacked to a tree near the scene of the fire. The placard in possession of the police read: "Pro-Germans Beware--Zeggel You slacker, if you can keep a car you can buy a liberty bond." Investigation was underway today at local police headquarters to determine those responsible for the blaze. The garage was a furnace of flames before the local firemen were summoned. Engine House No. 3 of Evanston was caleed but the structure was a mass of ruins before the flames were extinguished.
