- Peggy Smith is considering buying the lot west of her home on the 1300 block of Wilmette Avenue and joining both lots for a multiple-townhouse project. The area zoned as R2 requires special permits for such projects. In recent years nine such projects have been approved, leading Smith to wonder if special permits should be necessary. Developer David Schwartz' D.S. Development has spent thousands of dollars seeking approval for a project at 1314-1318 Wilmette Avenue. He has not yet received approval.
The Village's Land Use Committee drafted a list of zoning code issues March 22 to examine, and they include the townhouse question, alternative energy sources, new parking regulations for restaurants, affordable housing and form-based zoning for neighborhoods seeking to preserve special characteristics. - Date of Publication
