- John Hoeppner of Wilmette quit his Washington, D.C., job and rode his bicycle home hoping to get some good exercise and thinking done in his two-week trip. The trip was uneventful and trouble free except for the constant warnings to be care from his mother, Joeanne Hoepper, his mother's friend, Connie Siegel, and many strangers along the way.
