- The recent rain storms have washed away standing water hosting larvae for the culex mosquitos--the species most often responsible for carrying the West Nile virus and which bites only at night. There will probably be more mosquitos of the aedes vexans type that thrives on floodwaters and is a more aggressive 24-hour feeder.
