- Neighbors assisted each other with offers of laundry service and meals as families coped with damage from flooded basements following the storm August 23. Comments by Wilmette residents Margaret and Brad Burton, Kim O'Donoghue and Chris Canning of the 1000 block of Cherokee Lane. The Burtons have two children, Abby, age 10, and Charlie, age 9. Wilmette resident Laurie Goldstein suffered a power outage but was able to salvage some of her frozen food when the manager of Dominick's Finer Foods on Green Bay Road, Willie Wells, offered to store food in the stores cold lockers for residents. The owners of Zier's Prime Meats & Poultry, 813 Ridge Road, lost power immediately after a large delivery of meat to the store. Denise Zier and her husband Dave set up a giant roaster in front of the store and begain to grill sausages and give them away rather than waste the food. Comments by trustee Lali Watt on her family's stories of the storm in the 600 block of Chilton lane.
