- The Ouilmette Country Club was founded in 1898. Mr. George W. Hess was the first president, and Mr. Burton Thomas was secretary with Mr. John Verrall as treasurer. The original site was a wooded spot on Mr. Newton Wilson's tract of land near Ninth Street and Chestnut. Description of the growth of the club and facilities. MR. Millard, vice-president, laid out a six hole golf course. Mr. Benjamin Schlesinger gave the organization a set of plated silverware to replace the tin spoons in use. This building burned in a fire as did the second clubhouse. When Wilson subdivided his land a new site was obtained near the lake.
Officers: Mr. George Hess was president again after Mr. C. C. Taylor, and after them were Mr. S. P. Stevens, Mr. J. D. Couffer, Mr. M. L. Vanderkloot, Mr. M. B. Skinner, Dr. D. M. Gallie, Mr. Lyman Drake, Mr. C. R. Latham, for two terms, Mr. A. W. Hawkes, Mr. F. A. Brown and Mr. C. M. Puhlman. Mr. Arthur J. Taylor is president now. Mr. H. C. Arms is vice-president, Mr. F. J. Scheidenhelm is treasurer, and Mr. Phil Huguenin is secretary. The Board of Directors are Mr. G. J. Bichl, A. G. Frost, T. B. Potter, B. E. Gage, C. C. Mitchell, G. R. Linn and M. W. Zabel.
Mr. Ralph S. Baker is chairman of the bowling committee, Mr. A. G. Frost of the tennis committee, Mr. G. R. Linn of the House and grounds committee, Mr. C. D. Heller of membership, Mr. O.G. Corns of a reception committee.
