Rev. Vattmann in Priesthood Fifty Years

Reverened Major E. J. Vattmann will celebrate the golden jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood on the thirteenth of May. An event of this character is out of the ordinary. To observe it, a group of Wilmette people are arranging an all-day celebration to close at night with a banquet.

Thirty Years in Army
For thirty of these fifty years in the priesthood, Major Vattmann was a chaplain in the United States Army. He had the respect and confidence of three presidents, McKinley, Roosevelt and Taft. The scope of his work was far wider than the routine of a military chaplain. History will show what an important part he played in reconciling the Filipinos and the Porto Ricans to American rule. His own church owes him a rare debt of gratitude, and the xpectation of his friends that a token of this would be forthcoming at festivities of his jubilee has been realized in this appointment in Monsignor.

Public Minded Citizen
Father Vattmann's sympathies have never been confined to those of his own faity. Many of his best friends are outside of his own church. Wilmette knows him for a public minded citizen. On the park board and the school board he has given of his time and energy.
The program for the day is as follows:
Special car will leave C. & N. W. depot at 9:15 a.m., arrive at Wilmette at 9:45 a.m.
Procession of Clergy and Societies will leave Jubilarian's house at 10:15 a.m.
Solemn High Mass by Very Reverend Jubilarian wil lbegin at 10:30 a.m.
Sermon will be preached by Rev. Francis C. Kelley, D. D., L.L.D., President Catholic Church Extension Society.
Luncheon in church hall (ladies of St. Joseph's parish) immediately after Mass.
Entertainment at St. Joseph's hall by children and choir of St. Joseph's church at 3 P.M.
Open reception by catholic Women's Club, 10th street and Greenleaf avenue, Wilmette, 4 p.m.
Viewing Wilmette at 5 p.m.
Banquet by friends and neighbors to honor Jubilarian, at Woman's Club of Wilmette, 6:30 p.m.
Address by prominent ecclesistics and laymen at Woman's club 6:30 p.m. Music by quartets of New Trier High School.
