- The Wilmette Village Board voted to create an Environmental Commission last May, but it has remained unfilled as trustees consider how to reconfigure the 20 village committees and panels. The board is looking to merging an Environmental Commission with the Board of Health. Comments by trustee Jon Levin and Lali Watt. Attempts to legislate some green issues provoked a conservative backlash, for example a tree preservation ordinance and a price break for vehicle stickers for low-pollution cars.
Many green initiatives are being taken up by individuals. Comments by Patrick Meara and Laurel Tyler of of Go Green Wilmette. - Date of Publication
