Only a small crowd assembled to witness the children's charity performance, given last Friday evening at the Wilmette Woman's club under the direction of Loretto Coffield Clarke, but it is said that a great many tickets were sold, thus netting the little workers a [unclear] sum with which to play the role of Santa Claus among the needy families in Wilmette.
The program opened with two selected readings by Loretto Coffield Clarke, followed by a group of musical numbers given by Miss Grace Sieberling, a faculty member of the Mary Wood Chase School of Musical Arts. Other recitations which proved extremely good were:
"The Night Before Christmas," by Helen Hecht.
"Aunt Tabitha," by Edith Moore
"Dollie's Lessons," by Nathalie Yunkers
"A Note to Santa," by Lyle Moore
"The Moo Cow Moo," by Ruth Moore
The remainder of the program consisted of two folk-plays by Constance D'Arcy Mackay. The scene of hte "Snow-Witch" was in the home of Marina Machinoff, a Russian peasant woman, played by Margaret Smurr. Other characters were characterized by Dorothy Yunkers, Edith Moore, Helen Hrcht and Catherine Smurr all of whom did excellently.
"The Forest Spring," an Italian play, was cast in a deep forest near Salerno, Italy. Those who took part in this pretty scene were Helen Hecht, Ruth Moore, and [unclear] Shawdan, whose interpretations seemed very realistic.
These children are all pupils of Mrs. Clarke, who is to be congratulated upon the poise, and power of expression gained by the different children through her teaching.- Featured Link
