Schaefer gets Orders to Prepare for War

John Schaefer, cashier of the Wilmette Exchange State Bank, last week received a telegram which for a time caused him to become greatly excited. The message related to war and as Mr. Schaefer, [unclear] commonly known by his many friends as "Captain Jack," is the head of a military organization of Gross Pointers, he was considerably wrought up over the incident.
The following is a copy of the messge received by "der captain."

"Captain Jack Schaefer, Wilmette, Ill.
"In how quick a time could your Gross Pointers cavalry report if needed for Mexico?
Signed
Major Dietrich Schmaltz von Lebkuchen"

Until his eyes reached the lengthy German name attached to the telegram, Captain Schaefer's heart was thumping like a bass drum. He had visions of war and [unclear] in the bank declare that his emotions were worked up to the highest pitch. Then when he beheld the fictious signature, he knew that a joke had been perpetrated upon him by friends.
Nevertheless Captain Scheafer asserts that his Gross Point military company, a private organization, is in good training and in case war is delared, his sturdy German brigade will be ready to go to the front.
