Notes
Wilmette locked in a supply of salt months ago under a state contract at $63.80 per ton increasing its usual allotment by more than 400 tons above its recent average of 2,200 tons a year. Donna Jakubowski, Wilmette's Public Works director said the state purchase system doesn't allow municipalities as much wiggle room in their contracts as in former years. It is possible to resort to a sand salt mix during emergencies, but it's considered a poor option as the sand tends to build up in storm sewer pipes.
