Wilmette Village Board

A regular meeting of the village board was held Tuesday evening with all members present except Trustee Gardiner.
Reports of the collector and superintendent for March were received and refered to the finance committee.
A plat of a piece of land on Chestnut avenue was presented and approved.
The sewer and water committee recommended a reduction in water bill of [unclear] Donaldson to $9.64 and the report was approved.
The finance committee reported the examination of the village treasurer's report for February and the report was approved and placed on file.
The superintendent was instructed to purchase a car load of crushed stone for street repairing, etc.
A communication from Ellen V. Casey in regard to a sidewalk to be replaced in front of her property was referred to the street and alley committee.
A communication from Mrs. E. Lynch asking if arrangements could not be made to have the Chicago & Milwaukee Electric Railroad Company sprinkle between its tracks on Greenleaf avenue was referred to the attorney and president.
An ordinance was presented by the North Shore Electric Company making some change in the methods of charging for service and was referred to the public service committee and the attorney.
A communication was received from the manager of the Chicago & Milwaukee Electric Railroad stating that a new schedule would be put into effect April 16 and asking for permission to run the local cars for Milwaukee through Wilmette with but one stop; promising that such car would be followed closely bya car making all stops and that the service would thereby be improved. The board decided to allow the change as an experiment, reserving the right to cancel the permission at any time, with the provision that stops should be made at Wilmette avenue and Fifth street.
A communication from A. P. [illegible] in regard to a sidewalk on a portion of Sheridan Road was referred to the street and alley committee.
Jacob Smith was appointed inspector for the Elmwood Avenue Improvement.
A report from the State Water Survey department of the state university, under date of March 18, stated that water taken from main at 607 West Rail Road avenue was safe at that time but liable to contamination in the future.
The usual monthly and miscellaneous bills were read and ordered paid.
A letter from the president to [unclear] the Northwestern Railway Company in regard to proposed change of grade at Isabella street and the moving of a building into Wilmette without procuring a permit and the reply thereto were read. The letter was to the effect that no change in grade in the road bed in Wilmette was contemplated at present and that the matter of moving the building was one about which the writer had no knowledge.
