With laundry facilities furnished the tramps and other men given free lodging at the Evanston police station, the place is being overrun almost every night with wanderers. Recently twenty men were given free berths and on New year's night ten men applied for lodging. The capacity of the lodging quarters is about thirty persons and while it has been limited previously, the start of the New Year with thirty in two nights, causes the police to believe that the Evanston station will be a Mecca for the unemployed the coming cold winter nights.
The laundry facilities furnished consist of a stationary tub with an abundance of hot water supplied. For the drying purposes the hot steam pipes give a good substitute for the ordinary clothes line.
