- Edward W. Smith, 79, formerly of Wilmette, died Feb. 21 in Palm Desert, Cal. Survivors include his wife, Frankie; two sons, Edward Jr. and Frank, both of Wilmette; a daughter, Helene of DeKalb; and nine grandchildren. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie.
