- The Loyola community celebrated the start of its centennial year with the traditional all-school Mass of the Holy Spirit on Sept. 21. Participants included senior class president Emily Picchietti '10 of Lake Forest; Loyola president Reverend Patrick E. McGrath; Patrick Durham '10 of Glenview; Sarah Steger '10 of Northfield; Claire Cosgrove '11 of Kenilworth and Peter Dahm '10 of Lincolnshire; Will Haley '11 of Chicago (60610) and Grace Quinn '12 of Kenilworth; Aileen Ryan '12 of Lake Forest and Rose Tobin '12 of Wilmette; Claire Cormier '10 of Glenview; Tom Feifar '10 of Inverness; Christian Kreb '10 of Mount Prospect; Carolyn Maddock '10 of Wilmette; Kate Ryan '10 of Lake Forest; Lizzie Siprut '10 of Chicago (60625); Colleen Smith '10 of Wilmette; and Isabel Yisak '10 of Glenview; and faculty, and staff theology teacher David Heineman of Skokie; dean of academics Mary M. Ricky Barr '10 of Skokie was selected as the Interfaith Youth Corps representative to attend Face to Face/Faith to Faith, a summer program sponsored by the Auburn Theological Seminary in upstate New York.
Fkrti Negassi '10 of Chicago (60640) represented the Interfaith Youth Corps on the television show, "Different Drummers." The program aired in June.
The 2009 Loyola Academy Girls Swimming and Diving team, coached by Dennis Stonequist '90, hosted a paddle tennis fundraiser this fall. Team captains Clare Cormier '10 of Glenview, Nica Filippini '10 of Lake Forest, Mary Kate Green '10 of Wilmette, Cally Stauder '10 of Lake Forest and Julia Cormier '11 of Glenview. The swimmers collected $1,500 to help those in need throughout the community.
Thirty-nine students and three chaperones participated in the Classics Tour to Greece and Italy this summer.
Loyola Academy Classics teachers were presenters and participants at the Illinois Classical Conference at Northwestern University in October. M. Rebecca Wick of Lake Forest, conference vice president and conference organizer with David J. Mathers of Chicago (60626); William Lowe of Wilmette. Wick and Lowe will service as conference co-presidents next year and will be responsible for organizing the 2010 conference to be held at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.
The Maroon versus Gold Spirit was held the week of Sept. 28. List of activities. The Gold t-shirt was designed by Kate Ryan '10 of Lake Forest and the Maroon by Emily Sammon '10 of Chicago (60630). Others mentioned include Pat Barry '10 of Skokie, Evan Fay '10 of Lincolnwood and Ryan Shea '10 of Chicago (60646), Katherine Hickey '10 of Glencoe and Carolyn Maddock '10 of Wilmette, Peter McNulty of Wilmette, band director Corey Ames of Grayslake, Ramblerettes dance moderator Cindy McLean of Morton Grove and cheerleader moderator Laura Soldato.
Parents gathered in the east gym to hear Po Bronson and Ash Merryman discuss their book, Nurture Shock, on the evening of Sept. 30.
Loyola will present the Health and Wellness lectures for parents.
Varsity and Junior Varsity Ramblerettes Pom Dance Team attended the Universal Dance Association Summer Camp in August. Varsity took second place with its home routine and earned a Superior trophy for its ribbon total: Katelyn Cushing '10 of Park Ridge; Marlo Marion '11 of Lake Forest; Anais Reyes '11 of Glenview; Jackie Richardson '11 of Chicago (60634); and Morganne Stevens '10 of Park Ridge earned All-State honors. Georgia May '13 of Chicago (60657) earned the Top Drill Down trophy, a contest held with all 200 camp participants. The Junior Varsity took third place with its home routine and received a Superior trophy for its ribbon total. Gina Casale-Ryan '11 of Des Plaines; Nikki Justiniani '11 of Niles; Kelly Parker '11 of Chicago (60631); and Samantha Steinle '12 also of Chicago (60631) earned All-State honors.
The Varsity Team volunteered at Misericordia's 29th Annual Family Fest.
The Ramblerettes hosted a dance clinic on Oct. 18 for children in fourth through eighth grade. - Date of Publication
