Help Library! Citizen's plea

In its public library the village of Wilmette has an asset that should be guarded as jealously as its school system--and supported as liberally. No other agency can perform its functions. It is the connecting link between the school and the home--the source from which the student body secures its reference books, as well as the classics and fiction that must supplement the regular text books. Indeed, the library occupies the position of an efficient handmaiden of the schools--an educational institution that could be dispensed with only at great cost to the entire community.

Funds needed now
What would you say to the person who would come to you and suggest that the library be closed permanently, or its equipment cut in half? Certainly your answer would be that closing would not be considered for a moment, and that reduction of equipment could not be given a thought. While there is no danger of the former disaster, the second is a very serious reality, due to the rapid increase of population, and consequent increase in school attendance. The effect is exactly the same as though population and requirements had remained the same, and library equipment reduced one half, or approximately so.

Need More Books
The Wilmette Library is not now at the point of efficiency that the village requires. It has not the number of books per capita that it should have. It has not the financial resources to keep the library in step with th growth of the village.
When one considers the splendid work now being done by the Library board with the limited means at its command, he cannot but wonder what miracles that capable and loyal body could accomplish with even a moderate amount of money.

Must Waken to Needs
The time has arrived when the citizens of Wilmetet must awake to the needs of this institution, which is so important a factor in the educational life of the village. Few people can supply the books that children require, and the library must be so equipped that the facilities for reference and good, healthy reading are at a maximum and not a minimum. Means must be found to provide what it now lacks--the money necessary to a growth comensurate with the needs.
The Library needs your help! Give it liberally--at every opportunity. If you have books to spare, turn them over to the librarian, that others may get the good of them. Support it, morally and financially, whenever you have the chance. It is an investment that will pay you well.
