- During the month of February, all fourth grade students at Avoca West Elementary School learned how to create videos promoting their favorite books in the Encore Literacy class. Their videos were then submitted to the 2010 Storytube National Contest. Award winners were Flynn Hersh, of Glenview, Caroline Lockwood, Gia Palacios and Simone Wall, all from Wilmette.
In addition, the following students have been selected as runners-up for their videos: Christina Kafkis; Alexander Quezada; Sage Bradford, Colleen Furth and Jennifer Hall; Kathryn and Carolyn Roy; Cara Savin, Joanie Bradshaw, Alex Boltz and Jessica Werner; and Brandon O'Neil and Danielius Rekasius. Two more students i Louisa Perrin and Arielle Maalul were helped with their videos by friends and family outside of school.
Avoca West Elementary School information technology center director Susan Geidner commented on the project.
