Mr. Marshall r. Knox, 1617 Lake avenue, is confined to his home with rheumatism.

Mrs. D. F. Anderson and son, 530 Washington avenue, left Saturday for a trip to Michigan.

The card party given by the Hiawatha Club was a great success and a very enjoyable affair.

Mrs. Riemann of Fifteenth St. is entertaining Mrs. C. Kreidler of Chicago for a few days.

Mrs. Frank E. Robinson and children, 1625 Lake avenue, will spend the summer in Michigan.

Miss Evlyn Cummons spent a few days with Miss Esther cohen, 1228 Gregory avenue last week.

Mrs. joseph Lear, 1637 Forest avenue, is entertaining her aunt, Mrs. Brown, and daughter from Ohio.

Mrs. L. R. Slawson, 1524 Lake avenue, left Monday for Elgin, Illinois, where she will visit friends for a few days.

Mrs. S. Brown and daughter, Katherine, of Davenport, Iowa, are the guests of Mrs. W. D. Elmer on Lake avenue.

Mrs. R. J. Burrows, 1525 Lake Avenue, returned home Sunday from Barrington, Ill., where he spent last week.

Mrs. E. Seyfort, 1150 Central avenue, returned Friday night from several weeks' visit with friends in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Julia Clark of Greenleaf, Wisconsin is spending a few weeks with her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Peterson of Forest avenue.

Mrs. Frank Marchant of Hill street, who has been visiting her parents in Portage, Wisconsin, arrived home Monday of last week.

Mr. W. D. Elmer, Lake avenue, left Friday for northern Michigan on a fishing trip, where he expects to remain about three weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter W. May have given up housekeeping for the present and are living with Mr. May's parents, at 1448 Wilmette avenue.

Dr. H. W. Powers, formerly of Kenilworth, moved to 1607 Forest avenue Monday. Dr. Powers is connected with the Kenilworth Sanitarium.

The Wilmette Young Men's club entertained about sixty men Tuesday evening on the lawn of Mr. Arthur Taylor's at Eighth and elmwood.

Mr. J. A. Herbon, who has been employed at the A. S. Van Deusen grocery for several years, has resigned and will accept a position with the Bowman Dairy company.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl E. Orner and children, 23 West avenue, left last week for Franklin Grove, Illinois. Mr. Orner returned home the latter part of the week. Mrs. Orner and the children will remain about two weeks.

A small blaze broke out in the bakery of F. A. Wilson, 1148 Central avenue, Sunday night about 9 o'clock, but was soon extinguished by the chemical apparatus upon the arrival of the fire department. The damage was slight.

The Ouilmette Country Club will hold a bridge card party Saturday, the [illegible]at 8:30 p.m. It is pleasing to note that the card parties have been well attended, and have evidently been enjoyable. There will be prizes and refreshments as usual.

The marriage of Miss Angeline Menne of Menominee, Wisconsin, to Mr. Charles Eslinger of Syracuse, N.Y., took place Tuesday evening at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. W. Bennett, 124 Twelfth street, the Rev. Father E. Byrnes officiating. The bride wore a gown of embroidery French lawn with Cluny lace, and carried a shower bouquet of lilies of the valley and roses. Master Lester Galitz and Margaret Bennett carried a beautiful basket of flowers. the decorations of the home were pink and white carnations. Only members of the family were present.

Mrs. W. N. Cornell entertained the Tuesday Club this week.

Mrs. Charles N. Reese will entertain her luncheon club today.

Miss Dora Williamson has returned from a three weeks' visit in Hartford, Wisconsin,

Mr. Watt of Monmouth, Illinois, was the guest of Dr. and Mrs. Butler last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Seiboldt, 523 Washington avenue, left last week for a trip abroad.

Miss Harriet Berles of Chicago spent a few days with Miss Lillian Happ last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Cody of 908 Greenwood avenue are spending several weeks in the east.

Miss Beatrice Tuerk left Monday for Hamlin Lake, Michigan, where she expects to spend two weeks.

Miss Elizabeth McCue has been visiting Miss Dorothy Allen at their summer home at Delavan, Wisconsin.

Miss Josephine Shriner of Batavia, Ill., spent the weekend with Miss Alva Tuerk, 1441 Forest avenue.

Mrs. Padock of 816 Lake avenue has recently rented her home to Mr. Edward Ziph, who will take possession August 15. Mrs. Paddock will reside in Evanton.

Mrs. Fred Bulley of Kenilworth entertained the members of the W.C.T.U. of Wilmette at a porch party on Tuesday. Mrs. E. E. Armstrong read a paper on "What the W.C.T.U. Has Accomplished."

Thieves broke open the tool shed of Waddell & Carpenter, contractors, who are building a residence at Fourth Street and Lake Avenue, Wednesday evening, and made their escape with a number of valuable tools belonging to carpenters who are working on the building.

Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Bateman, formerly of 735 Michigan avenue, have moved into their beautiful new home just opposite their old address on Michigan avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Bateman's home is not quite completed yet, but when finished will be numbered among the most handsome residences along the north shore.

Mr. Albert Tuerck, 1441 Forest avenue, has just returned from an extended fishing trip at Gray's Lake, Ill. As a result his many friends and neighbors have enjoyed many a "finny dinner," among the catch being a 26 1/2 pound muskellunge and a fine mess of black bass. A slight mishap percipitated Mr. Tuerrk into the lake, with no further injury, however, than damp clothes.

The board of trustees, Epworth and Junior leagues and the Sunday school of the Wilmette Methodist Church are purchasing a new electric stereopticon. It is expected to be in readiness for next Sunday evening's vesper service. It will be used every Sunday evening during July and August at this service. the Junior league is planning to use it in some way in place of the regular Sunday afternoon devotional services, which have been discontinued for July and August.

Services are held in the Woman's Club building, Tenth street and Greenleaf avenue. The pastor, Dr. Wilson, will speak Sunday morning at 11 o'clock on "the Irrepressible Conflict," and in the evening at 7:45 o'clock on the subject of "The Devil and His Dupes." the picnic, which had to be postponed on account of rain, will be held Saturday, the car leaving the Woman's Club building at 1015 or 10:30 a.m. In case of rain the picnic will be held at Ravinia Park, instead of at the grove south of the naval station; but it will be held, "rain or shine." The midweek service will e at Mr. and Mrs. Hostetter's home, 626 Greenleaf avenue, Wednesday, July 24, at 8 p.m. The Men's league has an open air meeting--a gospel song service--on Friday night, July 19, near the corner of West Hill street and Twelfth street, at the intersection of Kline Street. This meeting is for all who care to come. A brief address will be delivered by Dr. Wilson on "The Three Pillars of Manhood and Womanhood."
