Washington Society Shave Their "Tabbies"

They are shaving cats in Washington. Some of the "tabbies" are getting fancy haircuts, too, and when the barber gets through with wthe aristocratic entries of the Washington Cat Club, they look like a cross between a French poodle and a squirrel. Mrs. Henry L. West, president of the Washington Cat Club, says the custom of "barbering" cats is imported from England. "Cats with long fur, especially Persians, suffer terribly from the heat," Mrs. West said. "Consequently it is humane to clip them." Mrs. Bixby, wife of General Bixby, chief of the army engineer corps, has engaged a "cat barber" to attend to her seven pedigreed prize winners.
