Notes: The state plans cover suburban and Downstate teachers and school administrators, state employees, state university employees, county and state judges and members of the Illinois General Assembly. Collectively, the five plans cover 279,000 active employees and 168,000 current retirees. Employees covered by the Teachers' Retirement System and the State University Retirement System don't receive Social Security, while some employees in the State Employees Retirement System also are eligible for Social Security.
