Notes
There is a controversy among women about whether severe physical force should be used to punish children. Most Evanston and Chicago area women think it should not. This includes Mrs. L. Bracket Bishop, vice-president of the Chicago Political Equality League and other women's groups, Mrs. Catharine Waugh McCullough of the Lake Shore News and Mrs. C. E. Clifton, president of the Evanston Woman's Club. The majority of Evanston women believe that whipping is barbaric and that it tends to "drive away children's love."
