Mr. Alvah O. Callow, 831 Foster street, attended the Elgin auto races Friday.

Mr. C. F. Murray, 2662 Stewart Avenue, was in Elgin, Illinois, Saturday attending the races.

Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Truesdale, 921 Washington street, are at Spring Lake, Wisconsin, for a month.

Mr. and Mrs. Spohr and children, 2319 Harrison street, have returned from a week's visit at Lake Chattel, near Antioch, Illinois.

Miss Sophia Youngquist, 2322 Harrison street, left Saturday for a two weeks' visit among friends in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Work has been begun on the foundation of the new home of Mr. R.A. Worstall on Lincocln street, left Saturday for a two weeks' visit among friends in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Mrs. Fred Oesting and granddaughter, Alice, of Richmond, Indiana, are visiting her son, Mr. Elmer Oesting and family, 2653 Stewart avenue, or six weeks.

Mrs. Robert Chandler, 2019 Lincoln street, gave a lawn party for her daughter, Laura, Thursday afternoon. Twenty-five children enjoyed the afternoon.

Dr. Reese Kester, former pastor of the Hemenway M.E. Church, is visiting in this city and occupied the pulpit at the 11 o'clock services Sunday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. William J. McCallum and daughter, helen, 2711 Dewey avenue, left Saturday morning for a few days' visit at Lake Chattel, near Antioch, Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Gale, Elm avenue and Lincoln street, gave an old fashioned corn-roast Saturday evening to which their immediate neighbors were invited.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hanson of Harrison street have returned from Saugatuck, Michigan, where they finished their vacation after a delightful trip to Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Mr. J.F. Piersen, 1231 Oak avenue, left Friday for Whitehall, Michigan. He returned home Monday accompanied by his family who have been at Whitehall since July 1.

Messrs. George Valentine, 2007 Pioneer road, and Harold Bennett, 2508 Hartzell street, returned Friday from northern Michigan, where they have been camping for the past two weeks.

Mr. Edwin F. Walke, 2333 Lincoln street, manager of the men's clothing department in Marshall Field & Company's retail store, has sailed for a month's trip abroad in the interest of his house. He will visit various cities in England and then go to Paris.

Miss Louise Hollister, National W.C.T.U. organizer, gave a very interesting and instructive talk Wednesday to the teachers of Lake County at their institute, which is being heldin Waukegan under the auspices of the Waukegan W.C.T.U. Several prominent Evanston W.C.T.U. workers attended.

Mr. Herman Wehrman, for seven years manager of the grocery department at Rosenberg's and Mr. H.T. Litzkow, for five years manager of the men's clothing department of the stame store, have formed a partnership and bought out a general store at Niles Center for which place they will leave Monday.

Miss Helen D. James, formerly of Evanston, daughter of President Edmund J. James of the University of illinois at Champaign, and Miss Mary R. More, also of Champaign, were guests of MRs. Charles J. Harrer, 1827 Orrington avenue, and attending the Kappa Kappa Gamma convention. They returned home Tuesday.

Miss Alice Mochon of Deadwood, S.D., arrived Friday to visit her uncle and aunt, Mr.and Mrs. O.J. Mochon, 620 Clark street. Mr. and Mrs. Mochon are also entertaining another niece, Miss Lucile Pinsonneault, of Black Hills, S.D., who has been spending her vacation in Canada and is en route to St. Paul, Minn., to attend St. Catherine's college.

Mr. C. R. Morrison, 2204 Harrison street, has returned from a month's fishing rip near Hudson Bay, Canada.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bauer, 730 Oakton street, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Blocki at Hammond, Indiana.

Mr. J. W. Black, and two sons, LeRoy and Marshall, went Saturday to Northern Wisconsin to stay indefinitely.

Mrs. F. S. Coons and children of Minneapolis, Minn., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jay, 2525 Hartzell street.

Miss Charlotte Kent of Allegan, Michigan, is visiting at the home of the Misses Kathryn and Jane Rose, 2410 Park place.

Miss Eleanor Ettis Perkins, 2319 Lincoln street, has returned from a summer visit in Boston and Cambridge, Mass.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Leahy, 1327 Central street, left Saturday on an eastern trip, Boston being the main stopping place.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederic O. Peterson, 1620 Central street, are home after a vacation trip and visit with relatives in Kokomo, Indiana.

Prof. J. W. Graham of Clarksville, Tenn., has been visiting Mrs. T. C. Reiley and Mrs. Jennie M. Loney, 1614 Oak avenue, the past week.

Mrs. Harry J. Coon of Hasty, Colorado, who has been spending the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Childs, 1563 Oak avenue, has returned home.

Mrs. David J. John of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who has been visiting at Elkhart, Indiana, came this way to visit her mother, Mrs. Jennie M. Loney, 1614 Oak avenue.

Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Taylor and Donald Ellyson, 918 Hinman avenue, left Saturday in their touring car for Grand Rapids where they will spend several days.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon B. Smith, 1132 Sherman avenue, and son Russell, have returned from a trip to Grand Rapids, Mich., and a weekend visit at Long Lake, Illinois.

Rev. Lloyd W. Walter preached the anniversary sermon Sunday morning at the St. Paul's English Lutheran Church. The service at 7:45 in the evening was resumed.

Mrs. George Mackay, who with her husband are occupying the home of Mr. and Mrs. P.R. Shumway, 1605 Hinman avenue, is the possessor of a beautiful old English sheep dog.

Mr. James Huxtable was in St. Louis, Mo., last week on a business trip and Mrs. Huxtable, 431 Sherman avenue, is visiting their daughter, Mrs. Duwaine F. Alberry at Crystal Lake, Ill., for a month.

Miss Elizabeth Kartheiser, 1516 Greenwood boulevard, and niece, Miss Lillian Weiland, went Thursday to visit Miss Kartheiser's father, Mr.Theodore Kartheiser, at Aurora, Illinois. They returned Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. William Dubreuil, 1862 Sheram avenue, attended the wedding of Mrs. Dubreuil's cousin, Miss Lydia Jacobs of Forest Park, Illinois, and Mr. Frank Smith of Chicago, Illinois, Friday afternoon at Forest Park.

Miss Lydia B. Harrer, 1827 Orrington avenue, left Monday morning for Naperville, Illinois, where she has accepted a position as teacher in the public schools. Miss Harrer is a graduate of De Kalb, Illinois, Normal.

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Shellberg and two sons, Lester and Harold, 811 Oakton street, and Miss Corinne Bystedt, left Saturday on a motor trip across the state of Illinois, visiting Moline and Rock Island, their former home.

Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Allen, formerly of 1000 Foster street are in the city with a view of again locating in Evanston. They have spent the winter with their son, W. P. Allen, the director of Allen's Ink Distributor, who lives in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mrs. Rufus Dawes, 1800 Sheridan road, returned Sunday from her summer home at Holland, Michigan.

Dr. A.S.C. Clarke and family, 831 HInman avenue, returned Saturday from a visit with relatives near Toulon, Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Wyman, 806 Forest avenue, have gone on a six weeks' trip to Moser, Oregon, to visit their son, Thomas.

Mrs. L.E. White, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. G. Hall, 2310 Grant street, has gone to Madison, S.D. for the winter.

Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Butler, 2519 Harrison street, have as their guest Mrs. Butler's sister, Miss Emma Butler of Asbury Park, N.J.

Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Sprinkle, 2023 Sherman avenue, who spent Labor Day and Sunday at Jacksonville, Illinois, are expected home this evening.

Mr. A.G. Nicholson, 929 Davis street, has on display at the entrance to his apartments a majestic sunflower which towers twelve feet high.

The Girls' Friendly Society of St. Luke's enjoyed a delightful evening Thursday on the lawn of Miss Margaret Murray's home, 1035 Asbury avenue.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Van Every, 813 Sherman avenue, who have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. Robert Henry Keith of Baltimore, Md., have returned home.

Mrs. George S. Kingsley, 255 Kedzie street, has as her guest her cousin, Mrs. Dudley E. Mollen of Cleveland, Ohio, who arrived in Evanston last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. John Keith, who have made their home with Mrs. Keith's mother, Mrs. W.I. Earhart, 746 Michigan avenue, have taken an apartment in the Elmwood.

Mrs. Edna Campbell and son, Howard, of Seattle, Wash., after spending the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solon C. Bronson, 2026 Orrington avenue, have returned home.

Mrs. Amos C. Graves and daughter, Miss Evelyn Graves, who have been the guests of Mrs. Charles S. Graves, 925 Maple avenue, will leave for their home in Klamath Falls, Oregon, this week.

Mrs. J.L. Flannery and children, 1635 Hinman avenue, left yesterday for New York, where they will make their future home. Mr. Flannery has been in the east for the past four months.

Mr. J.F. Piersen's sisters, the Misses Alice and Mabel, and brother, William, who have recently returned from Alaska and been guests of Mr. Piersen, Monday again took possession of their home, 827 Lincoln street.

M.J. Sturns and family of Winnetka, Mrs. Sturn's mother, Mrs. Shepherd Benson, E.L. Goulson, Mrs. C. W. Wilmeroth and daughter, Mrs. Ashdown, formerly of Evanston, have taken residence for the winter at the Avenue House.

Friday evening at the home of Miss Alice Parsons, 1024 Ashland avenue, a merry party of fifteen was given. Supper was served and games were played. The prizes were won by Miss Charlotte Kaatz, 412 Rinn street, and Miss Elizabeth Kussow.

Mr. Theodore Kartheiser of Aurora, Illinois, accompanied by his daughter, Miss Elizabeth Kartheiser, and niece, Miss Lillian Weiland, 1516 Greenwood boulevard, are here from Aurora, where Miss Kartheiser and Miss Weiland spent a few days last week.

Mr. Sayler Coon, 1214 Main street left Saturday for Burdett, N.Y., where he has planned to meet his sister, Miss Phyllis Coon, who has been visiting for two months in the east. After a week's visit in Burdett they will return via Watkins' Glen and Niagara.

Mrs. Henry Whitehouse and two children of Pittsburgh, Pa., who have been for eight weeks the guests of Mrs. Ben B. Dibblee, 2657 Stewart avenue, returned home Saturday and Sunday another sister, Miss Jane Warner and child arrived from Pittsburgh for a visit with Mrs. Dibblee.

Mr. Henry Van Petten, 2323 Harrison street, has returned from a short business trip to St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. Jane Warner and daughter of Pittsburgh are visiting at the home of Mrs. Ben B. Dibblee, 2657 Stewart avenue.

Mrs. E. O. Williams and family, 2607 Park Place, have returned from Beaver Lake, Wisconsin, where they spent a month.

Mrs. Roberg G. Holabird, [unclear] Harrison street, has returned from a three weeks' visit amont friends in Pontiac, Michigan.

Mrs. Horace B. Williams, 2226 Central street, has returned from a two months' visit with her brother in Madison, Neb.

Miss M. McPherson of the M. McPherson Company, successors to Mme. Rita, has just returned form a buying trip to New York.

Mrs. Edith Risser McKay and son Dayton, have returned to their home at 2306 Central street, after spending three weeks in Michigan.

Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Mitchell and family, 2303 Harrison street, returned Sunday from Point of Pines, Michigan, having spent the summer there.

Mr. and Mrs. William J. McCallum and daughter, Helen, 2711 Dewey avenue, returned Tuesday after spending a few days at Lake Channel, Illinois.

The Luther League of St. Paul's church, Elmwood avenue and Greenleaf street, will hold a rally meeting Wednesday evenig at 8 o'clock at the church.

Miss Mabel Mason, 2235 Harrison street, left Sunday for Des Moines, Iowa, where she will visit her family before returning for the commencing of school.

Mrs. E. E. Faulkner and daughter, Beryl, 2429 Central street, returned Sunday after spending a month visiting friends and relatives in Des Moines, Iowa.

Miss Elizabeth Laning, 1566 Dewey avenue, gave a supper Monday night for Miss Amy Hallstrom, who just returned from a two months' visit at Portland, Ore.

Mr. William Green and family, 2017 Ridge avenue, have returned home from a vacation spent at Brown's Lake, Wisconsin. Mr. Green is credit man at Rosenbergs's.

Mrs. Paul H. Smyth and children, 525 Judson avenue, are expected to return to Evanston Saturday from the summer home at Lake Naponda, near Wellington, Vt.

Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Mitchell and children Theodore and John, of 2305 Harrison street, returned Monday after spending several weeks at Point of Pines, Mich.

After spending a number of days as the guest of the Misses Kathryn and Jane Rose, 2410 Park place, Miss Charlotte Kent of Allegan, Michigan, has returned to her home.

After visiting at the home of his brother, Mr. Harry Van Petten of 2323 Harrison street for a number of days, Mr. Elmo Van Petten of Pittsburg, Ohio, will return soon.

Mr. and Mrs. William Brown and children, 808 Grove street, have returned home after spending a few weeks at Mrs. Brown's mother's country home at Eden, Wisconsin.

Mr. Robert O. Egerton has been spending a number of days visiting at the home of Mrs. S.W. Youngquist, 2322 Harrison street, and returned yesterday to his home in Chicago.

Mrs. George S. Valentine and daughter, Mary of 2407 Pioneer road, returned last evening to their home after spending a few weeks visiting among relatives and friends in Davenport, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Butow, 2636 West Railroad avenue, yesterday entertained thirty-three members of their family at a reunion and picnic. The guests were taken to the lake shore in automobiles where they enjoyed dinner. The rain drove them home. Some of the members of the family were unable to attend the reunion

The Evanston Private Kindergarten, 422 Davis street, will reopen for the eleventh year Tuesday, September 24.

Miss Mabel Peterson, 1419 Emerson street, returned Thursday from her vacation spent visiting friends at different points.

Mr. Frank Hedblom of Toledo, Ohio, was the guest over Sunday of his brother, Mr. Fred Hedblom and family, 912 Crain street.

Edna and Grace Thackwell, 816 Main street, have returned from an outing with friends at their summer home on the Fox river.

Mr. Elias Mehlman, manager of the hardware department of Rosenberg's has returned from a week's vacation at Rockford, Illinois, and other points.

Mrs. George H. Goebel, 1929 Wesley avenue, and daughter, Miss Lillian Goebel, returned Monday from a three weeks' vacation in Detroit, Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

Miss Clara von Hofstein left last neight for her new home in Richmond, Virginia, stopping en route at Barnesville, Ohio, to join her aunt, Miss Hansen, who is visiting relatives there.

The Church of All Souls, Chicago avenue, between Lake street and Greenwood boulevard, will resume its 11 o'clock services Sunday. There will be no Sunday school until further notice.

Mrs. Ida Laney Ballew, her mother, Mrs. Lucy C. Laney, Miss Kathryn Ballew and Mr. William Ballew, formerly of Evanston, have returned from Corydon, Iowa, and are residing at 1632 Chicago avenue.

Mrs. Katherine V. Grinnell, who is making her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Thackwell, 816 Main street, left Monday for a short visit at the home of her son, who is pastor of the Baptist church at Tipton, Indiana.

Miss Trina Anderson, 1922 Wesley avenue, and Miss Emma Harmes, 1525 Main Street, who have positions in the department store of Hudson Bros., Detroit, Michigan, are spending a three weeks' vacation at their homes in Evanston.

It has become necessary to postpone the date of the dedication services of the Covenant M.E. Church for a number of reasons. The date was set for September 22, but it is now thought that nothing can be done for at least six weeks.

Miss Elizabeth Sharp of Lafayette, Indiana, arrived her today and will visit her sister, Mrs. Kellenburger of Lincoln street, for a short time. A number of her old school friends met her at the train and escorted her to her sister's home where a very delightful afternoon was spent.
