Armstrong, Thomas A. (Died)

Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier church on June 5 for Thomas A. Armstrong, 1239 Lake avenue, who, until his retirement on a pension last year, had been employed as a postal clerk in the main Chicago postoffice for thirty-nine years. Burial took place at South Bend, Indiana, in the Armstrong family plot. Mr. Armstrong died at his home on June 3 at the age of 64 years. He was the last of a family which was prominent in the early history of Chicago. His father, John M. Armstrong, an architect and civil engineer, built many of Chicago's public buildings, including the old City hall and court house and the county jail. A member of the Chicago city council at the age of 21, John M. Armstrong was perhaps best known for his work in connection with establishment of Lincoln Park. When a young man Thomas Armstrong entered the government service. After serving for thirty years at the Chicago main postoffice he was given the option of retiring from service on April 1, 1932. ...he did, and he was granted a pension. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his widow, Mrs. Adaliza Armstrong whom he married in 1925.
