Rogers, George (Died)

Dr. George Adelmer Rogers, 82 years old, 927 Main street, died on Sunday at his home after an illness of several years. Dr. Rogers, who was prominent in Illinois optometric circles, was born in Jefferson, Ohio, and grew up in Mauston, Wis. He attended the Oshkosh State Teachers' college and became prinicipal of high schools in Hudson, Kenosha and Oconomowoc. While teaching in evening business college Dr. Rogers lost the sight of one eye. This resulted from an injury received in his youth and turned his attention to the study of the scientific structure of the eye. Dr. Rogers had been a resident of Wilmette for five years, and prior to that he had lived in Chicago for 35 years. He was a former president of the Illinois Optical society and for many years served as professor of optometry at the Northern Illinois College of Optometry, 4043 S. Drexel boulevard, Chicago. Taking up lecturing on optometry, he became nationally known, and his published books are still in demand. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Helen Sizer Rogers, four sons, Homer Eugene, Walter I., Cecil D. and Frank E. Rogers, three daughters, Mrs. C.E. Partridge, Mrs. H. J. Theil and Mrs. J. H. Lovell, eleven grandsons and six granddaughters. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the chapel at 3415 N. Clark street, Chicago. Burial took place at Memorial Park cemetery.
