- Lifelong Wilmette resident Rose Gaughan died Nov. 22 at the home of her daughter, Marilyn in Northfield. She was 93. Mrs. Gaughan was born in Gross Point before it became a portion of Wilmette. Her father, Peter Schaefgen was the first Gross Point police officer. Mrs. Gaughan and her husband Martin, who died in 1986, were married in 1923 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wilmette. Survivors include two sons, James (June) Gaughan of Portage, Wis., and Martin (Janet) Gaughan of Mundelein; two daughters, Marilyn Reisner of Northfield and Lois (John) Belgard of Wilmette; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Kivland of Wilmette, who is the last of 13 siblings. A funeral Mass for Mrs. Gaughan was celebrated Nov. 26 at St. Francis Xavier Church. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery in Techny.
