- Katherine Smith Byrne, 83, died on Aug. 10 at Evanston Hospital. Her husband was the late Thomas J. Byrne. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Mandry of Winnetka; two grandchildren, Margarete and Antonia; her brother, Dr. Charles J. Smith; and nieces and nephew Margaret Murtagh, Patrick Smith and Sabina Smith.
