Woman found dead in home; gas turned on [Vera Skewes]

Mrs. Vera Skewes, wife of Harry Skewes, 1815 Walnut avenue was found dead in the kitchen of her home Sunday night, February 24. Gas jets in a cooking stove were found open. A coroner's jury on Monday declared that Mrs. Skewes had taken her life while suffering a spell of periodic melancholia.
Mrs. Skewes was found by her husband who returned home Sunday evening after attending the theater in Chicago. Finding the house dark and front and rear doors securely bolted, he gained entrance through a kitchen window. He found Mrs. Skewes lying on the floor.
Physicians and a pulmotor squad worked for several hours in a desperate attempt to resuscitate the stricken woman.
Funeral services for Mrs. Skewes were held Wednesday morning from the home and burial was at Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Skewes is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Dodge of Glen Ellyn, a brother and sister.- Featured Link
