Drops dead in home after day in garden [W. D. Elmer]

W. D. Elmer, Chicago attorney, passed away suddenly Saturday, November 22, at his home, 825 Park avenue, shortly after he had been working in his extensive garden plot on 16th street.

returning to his home late in the afternoon from the gardens, Mr. Elmer dressed for dinner and, as was his custom, entered his room for a brief rest. He dropped dead at the threshold.

Services were held Sunday evening, Dr. Hubert Carleton, officiating. Burial was at Davenport, Iowa.

Mr. Elmer had been a resident of Wilmette for about fifteen years. since his work was more or less confining, he chose the outdoor life as his hobby. He was an expert gardener and huntsman. Invariably, upon his return from a hunting trip, his neighbors received gifts from his generous bag of game.

he was a quiet man, intensely interested in the welfare of his community, always ready to lend a hand in civic advancement projects, though never putting himself to the fore in any movement.

"Wilmette has lost a splendid citizen and Park avenue an idea neighbor," said Earl E. Orner, village clerk, in commenting on the untimely passing of Mr. Elmer. Mr. Elmer is survived by his widow, Mrs. Winifred Elmer.
