Owen N. Knox dead: former Wilmette man and New Trier graduate killed in auto crash in France

Dr. Owen N. Knox, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Knox, of 519 Forest avenue, Wilmette and for the past seven years a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida, was killed in an automobile accident, near Paris, France, Wednesday, of last week. Mrs. Knox , who was with her husband at the time was seriously injured.

Dr. and Mrs. Knox were making an automobile tour of the battle fields of France. They had been as far as Lens and were returning when at Chateau Thierry a tire blew out. The chauffeur lost control of the car which crashed into a tree. Dr. Knox suffered a fracture of the skull, from which his death occurred almost instantly. Both Mrs. Knox and the chauffeur were injured, but not fatally.

The son of Dr. and Mrs. Owen Knox, Thomas Knox III, had accompanied his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Knox, of 519 Forest avenue, Wilmette, to England, where they were to be joined later by their son and his wife.

The body is to brought to Wilmette, for burial. The family and parents are leaving Paris, Saturday and are expected to arrive here about August 1.

Dr. Knox was 42 years old. He was a graduate of New Trier High school and was well know throughout the north shore and in Chicago. After his graduation in Chicago he also had taken work in Vienna. He served as an officer in the medical corps in the late war. Dr. Knox had been in St. Petersburg, Florida, for the past seven years, specializing in children’s diseases. Last May he went to Vienna to take up some special work and was joined there by his parents and wife and son. They had gone to Paris and the Doctor and his wife had planned to join his parents and his son in England, whence they had proceeded.

Mrs. John J. Spear, of 316 Forest avenue, Winnetka, is a sister of Dr. Knox.
