Funeral services were held Thursday, November 21, at the Wilmette Parish Methodist church, for the Rev. Daniel Stecker, 423 Eighth street, a retired Methodist minister and chaplain of the Wilmette Masonic lodge. Mr. Stecker passed away Monday morning, November 18, at the Evanston hospital following an operation.

Services were conducted by Dr. J. L. Hillman, president of Simpson college, a life-long friend of Mr. Stecker, and Dr. Horace G. Smith, pastor of the Wilmette Methodist church. Bishop Edwin H. Hughes sent a eulogistic message. Burial was at Findlay, Ohio, Mr. Stecker’s birthplace.

Mr. Stecker was born February 25, 1860. He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan university, and received his professional degrees from Boston university, School of Theology, and Ohio Theological seminary. His first active ministry was in Milwaukee and its environs. Later he held pastorates in Toledo and vicinity. His last pastorate was at Gary, Ind., where he was in charge of a social service mission. He retired and came to Wilmette seven and a half years ago.

As chaplain of the Wilmette Masonic lodge for several years, Mr. Stecker maintained an active interest in local fraternal work. He was also intensely interested in Methodist church work in Chicago and the suburbs.

He is survived by his widow, Mabel Pearman Stecker, who always had been closely identified with Mr. Stecker’s ministerial work.
