Dr. William Seymour White, well known Evanston physician and surgeon who had been practicing there for almost 20 years, died November 26, at the North Shore Health resort in Winnetka. He was 65 years old and was forced to give up his medical practice two years ago when his health failed him.

For the last ten years he lived at the North Shore hotel and prior to that he had made his home at the Greenwood inn, after giving up the apartment which he and Mrs. White occupied after first coming to Evanston.

Dr. White was born in Woodstock, Ill., December 30, 1864 and received his elementary education there and later attended the Chicago Homeopathic Medical College from which he was graduated in 1888. During the last half of that year and in 1889 he was an interne [sic] at the Cook county hospital.

He was intensely interested in military work, and was commissioned Assistant Surgeon of the Illinois National Guard April 25, 1899. At the close of the Spanish-America war he was summoned from Chicago where he had been sent after his discharge from active service, to go to Montak, L. I., and take command of a hospital trainload of wounded American soldiers and see them safely into Chicago.

Dr. White was the medical head of the Northwestern university military unit during the World war and was in active service at Fort Sheridan. He had the commission of lieutenant-colonel and brigadier surgeon of the Illinois militia and for many years was a member of the “Dandy First” regiment of Illinois infantry. This regiment was broken up during the World War and most of its members were transferred to the 133rd infantry of Illinois, under which name the old regiment was sent overseas.
