- Mary Gutekanst, 76, formerly of Wilmette, died July 8, in her Glenview home. Mrs. Gutekanst was born Oct. 7, 1927 to Irish immigrant parents, Michael Waters of County Sligo and Mary (nee Lee) of County Tipperary. In 1950, she married Chris G. Gutekanst. The following year premature twin boys died shortly after birth in the spring of 1951. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Chris; seven daughters, Mary, Cathleen, Norine (Robert) Bartlett, Rita (David) Huizenga, Carol, Karen (Glenn) Barr and Joan; nine grandchildren, Claire, Lucy and Nora Bartlett, Colleen, Glenn (Ricky), Emmett and Martin Barr, Natalie Huizenga and Michael El Ghoul; two sisters, Eileen (LeRoy) Gerber and Angela (John) Graham; 24 nieces and nephews; many cousins (here and in Ireland) and many in-laws. She was preceded in death by her brother, John (Charlotte) Waters. Mass was celebrated Monday, July 12, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Wilmette. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Evanston.
