- Bronco president Sid Tepps implemented a two-week trial period during the nine-week regular season this summer in which wooden bats were used. These bats also became part of Roemer Park tradition. Any player hitting a home run receives the actual ball encased by the league. During the wooden bat experiment, Tepps also gave the child the bat. Comments by coaches Rick Hrabe and Charlie Ieuter on the changes in hitting styles required by the heavier wooden bats.
