Notes: John Thomas ("Tom") Buck, a longtime veteran of Chicago journalism, died Oct. 12 in Evanston. He was 87.

He was born March 18, 1917, in Star City, Ind.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Luscombe Moss Buck; daughter Mary Buck (James) Young of Chicago; son Thomas Luscombe (Debbie) Buck of Winnetka; four grandchildren; and one niece.

A memorial service was held Oct. 16 at First Presbyterian Church in Evanston.

Interment was in the Buck Cemetery, west of Star City, Ind.
