- Hunger Awareness program Nov. 30 included presentation by Crysten Dixon about her experiences of being homeless, and Ed Shurna, director of Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. Emily Panici of Wilmette encouraged classmates to participate in 24-hour fast coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception Dec. 8. Fasters enjoyed a meal of homemade bread and soup served by Mother's Club and chaired by Mary Pat Studdert of Wilmette. Dec. 5 Hunger Sleep Out in which students set up temporary cardboard box homes in Loyola's courtyard, traveled to the Cornerstone Community Kitchen in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood to talk with residents. Students spent the night in their cardboard shelters, attending classes in the same clothes they slept in. Sleep Out Student Committee included Maggie Kaiser of Northfield; School library has grant from the state of Illinois; Dec. 22 Astronomy Club and Architecture Club held Christmas lunch and tour of Lovells of Lake Forest, a restaurant owned by former NASA astronaut Capt. James Lovell; Jesuit Novice Eric Sundrup is teaching science at the school; German Club activities.
