- McKenzie/ Highcrest fourth and fifth-grade chess team won the championship March 5 and 6 at the Illinois State Scholastic Chess Tournament in Peoria. List of players include: Jack Buckingham, Jack Cloud, Adam Cohen, Zachary Glicken, Christopher Glattard, David Glen, Brandon Hori, Alex Malecki, Jacob Nye, Evan Rothstein and Sonya Vohra. The McKenzie kindergarten through first-grade team of Davis Ryan, John Paul Sheridan, Henry Trevor, John Palmer and Luke Tsuhara placed fourth in the state. The second and third-grade team of Scott Drier, Connor Rothstein and Christine Ryan earned a 17th place finish. The Wilmette Jr. High Team of Nathan Gross, Amrit Kashyap and Akil Vohra earned a 15th place finish.
