- James Lee Elliott, 96, of Charlevoix, Mich., died May 13. He was the father of Sally Winter of Winnetka. Mr. Elliott was born Aug. 31, 1908 in Chicago. He was an eyewitness to the historic sinking of the Eastland in Chicago Harbor in 1915. Mr. Elliott married Phyllis Marie Hewitt on July 20, 1946. Mr. Elliott lost his wife Phyllis 1974. On July 4, 1976 he married Evelyn Mae Eng. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Jan Biddick (Ron Vanden Brink) of Petoskey, Mich. and Sally (Robert, Jr.) Winter of Winnetka; two step-sons, Patrick (Mary Dell) Eng and Michael Eng of Columbia, Mo.; six grandchildren, Meghan Biddick, and Jennifer, Elizabeth, Caroline, Robert III and Katherine Winter; and two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Eng.
